Find your measurements

Determining Your Size

Choosing which size to knit or crochet is the first step in making a garment. Begin with your bust/chest measurement. Compare your measurement to the ‘To fit chest/bust measurement’ size line in your pattern and choose the closest match.

Another tip is to measure a sweater with a fit you like and compare the measurements to the schematic measurements of the design you’re making. Schematics are included in the pattern and are line drawings of the garment pieces with measurements in inches showing widths and lengths of various sections.

Sweater sizing schematics from pattern as an example

Bust/Chest Measurement (A)

Using a tape, measure around the fullest part of your bust or chest keeping the tape straight across your back.

Waist Measurement (B)

Measure around the narrowest section.

Hip Measurement (C)

Measure around the fullest section which is generally 9 to 10 inches [23 to 25.5 cm] below the waistline.

Wrist to Underarm (D)

Measure from the wrist along the inside of your arm to approximately 1 inch [2.5 cm] from your underarm crease. This is the measure to work to before beginning the shaping of a set-in sleeve.

Shoulder to Wrist (E)

Measure from the shoulder bone along the outside of your arm, with your arm slightly bent, to the wrist. This is the measure for the total sleeve length.

Another tip is to measure a sweater with a fit you like and compare the measurements to the schematic measurements of the design you’re making. Schematics are included in the pattern and are line drawings of the garment pieces with measurements in inches showing widths and lengths of various sections.

Substituting Other Yarns

You will achieve the same results as offered in our patterns if you use the same yarns listed in the Materials section of each project. This yarn is used in the photographed garment and provides the best possible look for the design. If you prefer to use a substitute, purchase a yarn that is the same weight and knits to the same knit gauge/tension  or crochet gauge/tension.
